Recession Proof Your Makeup Bag!

CVS...Oh CVS! How I adore you! How I long to spend hours aimlessly walking through your aisles!
Today I'm sharing with you a few things that I LOVE that you can find in your local CVS or many other drugstores! Usually before making a big purchase I debate over it...Do I REALLY need it? or do I just WANT it? It's usually the latter but I seriously don't like spending tons of money on something that's either comparable or exactly the same as something that's less expensive. You'd be surprised how people spend $25 on plain black eyeliner in department stores (your usually paying for the name brand) and I can get basically the same thing in CVS for $1 and I do! A gal in this screwed up economy can surely appreciate a savings like that! So here I'm sharing my secrets to looking fabulous while in a 'recession' (lol!)

~Now I admit I jumped on the Bare Minerals bandwagon and bought the starter kit for $60 (thinking it was a steal!) from Sephora and that came with 3 brushes, 2 foundations, a bronzer, and mineral veil. But I just discovered 24.7 Minerals get started kit from CVS that's comes with the exact same thing as Bare Minerals BUT it's $20 CHEAPER! ($40) So def check that out!

~I know there are DIE HARD T3 fans out there BUUUTT $38 for some hair plumper? That's pretty pricey when you can get a salon-proved product for $13. Enter Nexxus Root Exxtend Volumizing Root Lifter. This stuff works just as hard for less than half the price AND if that wasn't good enough you get more than half MORE! T3 hair plumper is only 4oz. and Nexxus is 8.5 oz. so it'll last you a lot longer!

~Instead of paying $38 to BURN your lips off with Lip Fusion (check out 'Spoiled Pretty's' review of it here) try Sally Hansen's Lip Inflation for $6 you get Angelina Jolie-esqe lips! Plus it has Vitamins A and E to keep them moisturized while you pout!

~What do I know about self tanner? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I've said it before I'm tan all year long, gals. So I have no need for it but I do know I wouldn't spend $30 on it when I can get firm, sun kissed skin for $8! Some girls ( I wont say who!) spend $30 to look like they just came back tanned from St. Tropez why? I couldn't tell ya but I found Nivea Sun-Kissed Firming Moisturizing Lotion that creates a gradual, realistic tan every time you use it AND it has Ginkgo Extract that helps keep your skin tight and firm! Sounds good to me!

~Hello!? Who spends $95 on a hair brush? NOT ME!!! While some women spend $40 and up on fancy hair brushes I'm sticking to whats tried and true...and been around since I was a babe...Goody Hair Products has a line called "Styling Therapy" ($12) which is really cool because they have brushes that add shine and treat dandruff! For dandruff control the cushion/paddle brush contains Copper and ball tipped brushes that massage the scalp and kill 88% of the fungus that causes you to get dandruff! Eeeww! For some shine use the paddle or cushion brush that contains Jojoba oil to add shine, smooth frizzies and fly-a-ways and repair damage to dry hair! Can a $95 hair brush do that!?

~Just remember when your out there looking for a steal just because it's name brand doesn't always mean it's superior. You gotta shop around and see what works for you. I know there are some products that are tried and true and I would never swap them for something else but there are plenty of things you can swap and save from! Get more bang for your buck, gals!

Wow, those are really good tips :) Though I'm not American I can get what you're talking about ;D I was in my local superdrug the other day and found a hairdryer and straightening set which came in a really posh leather vanity case for £5 ($10)! It was left over from the Christmas sales but wow, what a great find for me!

I'm off to browse through the rest of your blog now, have a good day :P
